OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION “LES AMAZONES”│KASHINK TAKES THE REINS OF FLUCTUART

As part of the opening of the exhibition “The Amazons”, the artist KASHINK takes the reins of Fluctuart the time of an evening on Tuesday, June 29.

For this evening, the artist will perform live and then host a DJ SET. KASHINK will also be present at the Bookshop from 6:30 to 7:30 pm for a signing session of her book “Premières années à Paris, 2001-2015″, available for pre-order on the online shop.

KASHINK

One of the few very active international women artists in urban art. Her work questions aesthetic codes, the definition of identity. Whether celebrating diversity or confronting social norms, KASHINK considers herself an activist. Since 2013, she has worn a pencil mustache as her daily makeup. She considers it a statement as well as a sociological experiment, creating random conversations with strangers about beauty, gender, norms and freedom. The artist likes the idea of constant performance, painting huge murals or experimenting with face painting, which she develops as an embodiment of the characters she has been painting on the walls for 12 years.

THE EXHIBITION

8 artists from the urban art scene take possession of the Fluctuart quay to offer visitors and passers-by an explosion of colors between abstraction and figuration, which is also the honor of the female urban scene, with an almost exclusively female program. Free and committed, these women artists with very different universes reveal their vision of a world in perpetual mutation. Sometimes dreamlike, surreal, narrative or intimate, they upset social and cultural norms through their creation.

“This exhibition is an expression of contemporary art rich in cultural references and identity, specific to the origins, commitments and experiences of the invited artists. The moment has “finally” arrived to reappropriate the public space and to live the city differently. For this first exhibition of the Fluctuart terrace, the choice of a program mostly of women was made naturally. Without a doubt, a way to contribute to the building of an “inclusive narrative” of art history.
According to Agathae Montecinos, curator of the exhibition.
