Lek & Sowat lecture series

Let yourself be carried away by Thomasine Zoler, art historian specialized in contemporary art, tour guide and independent curator, for a cycle of three virtual conferences: Lek & Sowat, Exploration et infiltration en territoires inexploités.

During each lecture, the careers of these two artists will be presented, revealing their clandestine and unusual projects. This cycle will focus on the importance of these artists' approach, and highlight a graffiti practice little known to the general public: Urbex. We'll look at the genesis of the projects, their realizations and their role in the development of the careers of the two artists. Numerous photographs and videos will enrich the presentation.

1- Le Mausolée: Urbex at La Villette

This first virtual conference will present Lek & Sowat's first joint project - Le Mausolée - a vandal residence in a disused supermarket at Porte de la Villette. Over the course of a year, the two partners explored every nook and cranny of the building, inviting over forty French graffiti artists to clandestinely occupy this site steeped in history.

2- Lek & Sowat, Infiltrations at the Palais de Tokyo

Here, we'll focus on Lek & Sowat's infiltration of Parisian institutions with their exhibitions Les Entrailles du Palais de Tokyo and Terrains Vagues, in which they officially (and secretly) invited some fifty artists. As a sort of extension of Le Mausolée, we'll be analyzing how they invaded this contemporary art center, while remaining faithful to their approach.

In the latter, we'll delve into more recent projects by Lek & Sowat, delving into the depths of their exploration of unknown territories through their work The Monolith submerged in Arcachon Bay and their monumental underground intervention on the Koumba Tunnel on line 14 of the Paris metro.
