PÉBÉO URBAN ART PRIZE: INTERVIEW WITH NICOLAS LAUGERO LASSERRE

From May 29 to June 13, Fluctuart will be hosting the PRIX D'ART URBAIN PÉBÉO exhibition, featuring works by 36 emerging artists from the street art scene, discovered as part of the 5th edition of the international MIXED MEDIA competition. We asked Nicolas Laugero Lasserre, one of the founders and artistic director of Fluctuart, who is also curating the exhibition, about it.

How did the collaboration between Pébéo and Fluctuart come about?
Pébéo, the French leader in color for the arts, has supported Fluctuart from the outset. In addition to our common passion for art, we share many of the same values, so it was an obvious choice to pursue and develop our partnership.

What values do Pébéo and Fluctuart share?

We are passionate about art, we encourage its practice and we wish to support artists and creation in general, in all its forms. With Éric and Patricia Chaveau, we share the ambition of enabling young talent to emerge and make a name for itself.

What was the idea behind hosting this contest on Fluctuart?

We wanted to showcase emerging urban art talent from all over the world; 450 candidates took part! Among the 36 artists selected, 12 nationalities are represented, with 13 female artists.
We wanted to highlight the full diversity of this movement and its multiple techniques; one of the determining criteria was street practice, in parallel with their studio work.
Now we want to introduce these talents to as many people as possible with the exhibition, which will run from May 29 to June 13. It's quite unusual to exhibit emerging artists discovered through a competition in an art center, and we're delighted to be doing so on Fluctuart.

Are you thinking of renewing this collaboration?

We're really looking forward to renewing this award! We've got lots of ideas for developing this partnership; why not showcase this year's winner at the next edition? We'll probably be offering a longer exhibition next year, to provide an even greater showcase for the emerging scene. This competition is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the many young talents in this movement, and to introduce them to a wide audience.
