In 2015, Alexandre D’Alessio, a Marseille-based member of the group, curated and organized the exhibition “Aux Tableaux!” in a former school in Marseille. He invited 40 international artists to take over 2,500 m² of space during a four-month on-site residency. Located in the heart of Marseille, between the prefecture and the Cours Julien, the former Saint Thomas d’Aquin school spans more than 4,500 m² and comprises an entire school complex: preschool, elementary school, middle school, and high school. It was at this school, which had been closed since 2012, that the Juxtapoz association—along with Alexandre D’Alessio, the event’s artistic director and a member of 9ème Concept—chose to coordinate an artist residency. After a four-month residency, the exhibition—featuring a variety of multidisciplinary events—was open to the public from June through October 2015, welcoming more than 37,000 visitors.
